Sandiway Golf Club

Information for Prospective Members

About Sandiway Golf Club:

Sandiway Golf Club is a traditional but progressive Private Members Club, where you will be assured of a warm welcome.  We have almost 700 members, made up of Men, Ladies, Intermediates, and Juniors and under current guidelines advance bookings are compulsory.  There is a dedicated day for visiting parties and visitors are only able to book 2-weeks in advance.

Sandiway is a Club which prides itself on the quality of its course. It is most challenging, whilst at the same time being a glowing tribute to the Cheshire countryside. As the Club’s name indicates, the course subsoil is sand and hence drainage is excellent, allowing year round golfing in excellent conditions.

Sandiway is, without doubt, one of the top two golf courses in the County and as such is dedicated to competitive golf having staged numerous international, national and regional championships. This is reflected in the number of Category One golfers at the Club and the size and strength of the Junior Section, which begins from the age of nine.

Membership Process:

Applications for membership shall be made in writing using the Club’s official application form and signed by the applicant. If the applicant has family, friends or acquaintances who are already members of the Club, they may support the application as proposer and seconder provided, they have been a member for not less than five years.  If not then applicants will need a letter of introduction from their current or previous Club.

We strongly recommend that all applicants have a handicap index, either with a Club or through the England Golf Independant Golfer scheme.

A parent or guardian must countersign applications for juniors under 18 years of age.

If the application is accepted their names will be placed within an accepted application pool, and membership vacancies will be filled from within this pool at the Board’s discretion, with successful applicants invited for a meeting with the General Manager in the first instance, before completing a playing interview and attending a final interview.  Applications will then be approved at the next available Board meeting.

When you join the club, you will be given a welcome pack with your Membership card which provides access to the club and enables cashless purchases at the bar.

The Club runs a full and varied range of competitions including male, female, junior and mixed events.

Men’s qualifying competitions are generally run on a Saturday or Sunday with a mid-week competition once a month on a Wednesday

Ladies qualifying stroke play and team competitions are held separately on a Thursday and either a Saturday or Sunday at weekends

Mixed social competitions are held at weekends and Bank Holidays

Members are eligible to enter any competition (subject to eligibility criteria) once their subscription has been paid and they have a valid CONGU handicap.  Members with a non-active handicap may play in competitions, excluding match play competitions and the Spring and Autumn meetings, but will not be eligible for a prize.

To establish a handicap if you do not have one, or to re-activate your handicap, you need to submit three signed cards.  These can be from competitions or general play.

Entry to competitions is via the terminal in the locker room or via the website or App.

Members and Visitors Dress Code:

Sandiway Golf Club prides itself on being a forward thinking and welcoming club. To that end all our policies are kept under regular review.

We have high expectations of all our members and visitors in terms of their conduct, courtesy, and sportsmanship. Those expectations also extend to our dress code.

Perhaps no other policy of a golf club attracts more controversy than its dress code. Fashions come and go but we are unapologetic in seeking to maintain high standards here at Sandiway.

We recognise that members, members guests and visitors will welcome some guidance as to those standards and those who are inappropriately dressed should not be offended if they are challenged by our staff or by officers of the club.

The following information is therefore given as guidance both for wear on the course and in the club house:

On the Course

Please wear recognised and appropriate golf attire, golf shoes must be worn. When golf caps are worn the peak must be to the front.

Leaving the Course

Hats and waterproof clothing are only permitted in the changing rooms and are not allowed in any area of the clubhouse.

In the Clubhouse

Smart casual clothing, clean, dry recognised golf attire and clean dry soft spiked / dimpled golf shoes are acceptable throughout all areas of the clubhouse.

Further Guidance

Shirts (both golf and casual) can be worn outside of trousers, shorts, or skirts etc. when they are so designed.
Boat shoes, loafers or sandals may be worn without socks.
The wearing of tracksuits, cargo shorts and pants, casual t-shirts, football/rugby type clothing, work-wear clothing, gym wear, soiled, worn, faded or ripped clothing is not permitted in any area of the clubhouse or on the golf course.

Excellent changing facilities are provided for both gentlemen and ladies; members and visitors are encouraged (except under abnormal circumstances) to make full use of the amenities and not to utilise the car park area for changing anything other than shoes and socks
